Western States 100

Okay, not that it affects my world but for the first time in 35 years, the Western States 100 has been canceled! Can you imagine training for a 100 mile race, going through whatever it takes to acclimate, all of the suffering and pain, making the travel arrangements and having it canceled? It's not like you can go and find another 100 mile race in your neighborhood. I can't even imagine what the participants are feeling.

Sonia, it was the wildfires. They couldn't guarantee the safety of the runners or the air quality.

at least they had the stones to cancel the event and not put anyone in jeopardy.

My coach always works on the medical staff for this race and he has been coaching another lady to run it. He said that she burst into tears after it sunk in that the race was really canceled.

I know that there are no refunds, but I hope that the people who did not get to race this year have a little bit of an advantage in next year's lottery.
