My buddy the Race director is trying to come up with new and exciting things for his event. Since the theme is the beach, there will be Frisbees! Participants will get pint glasses and the obligatory T-shirt. There will be Spirit stations and sand.
So all of this got me to thinking about some events that I've done int he past and some of the more unusual stuff that was in the goodie bag.
I can remember one event replacing the actual bag with a five-gallon bucket!
The Columbus marathon gave out shorts along with the T-shirt.
So my question to you is, 'What would you like to see in a race goodie bag'???????????

My brother hates when races put things like rice and coffee beans in race bags, mostly because he goes to eat them, and is sad when he can't. Also, single serving sunscreen that LOOKS like Gu is a terrible idea. My brother found that out first hand.
The best race goodie I ever received was a pair of running socks. AWESOME. Everything else usually gets thrown away.
how about my race entry as a refund?
recently I got a swag bag with a really nice Lole hat, arm warmers and a discount coupon...
You asked this question once before and I'm not sure I have a better answer now than then. I love getting race stickers (what, I scrapbook) and quirky things are fun too. I like the idea of shorts, or the bucket. That's fun!
I'm a fan of baseball or running hats over shirts. No need really to worry about sizes etc.
The best 'swag' I have received was both a really nice gym bag (not a shoe bag) and a poster from the Flying Pig Marathon.
Portland gave out a great sling bag which I use for my clothes stash for the car in case of the need for an emergency run.
Detroit gave out rice after the race. RICE??? A power bar or candy would have been lovely, what on earth was I going to do with uncooked rice?
Beach towel would be a nice bit of swag. How about a nice car magnet with the even logo on it. Lord knows runners love sticking magnets to their cars (guilty as charged).
I'd go for shorts if they ordered appropriate sizes. Hats are ok but I have too many now. Random mugs could be fun to collect from various races.
I'd rather not get a swag bag at all and pay a lower registration fee...though most of that stuff is probably given my the sponsors. I could probably use that bucket for something useful though....it's better than the "single serving" of sunscreen that Rose mentioned. hehe
i'm stealing all of these comments for my race Ken. lol! hope that's ok.
