In 2005 they asked me if I would like to coach participants to run endurance events. I was elated and have been doing it since. Now I'm trying to spread the word of running to everyone.

Wednesday's Why?????
I'm a huge fan of this program but I have to ask, why did they have them run/walk a marathon with thirty days of Winter training?
I don't follow the show but a number of my teammates in Nashville do, and two of the guys from the show were running the marathon. In retrospect, I should have snapped a photo of them at 26.1 where a bunch of us were cheering after finishing our half marathon.
Ya a month is no where near enough time. Health risk....
i was irritated by that too... wonder how many people will now think ... if they could do it, so can i, and go in under-trained. I sorta thought it takes away from the respect of the distance. I did, however, find it a bit motivating to watch a few days before my first.
I'm surprised that all of them didn't get injured. Not very smart. It would have made sense if they were building on their 'half A marathon' they ran, but I doubt they were doing that. And, from previous contestants and their 'attempt' at a 23 mile marathon...makes you question if everyone covered the full distance this time as well. Just saying...
i actually think they had 4-5 months of cardio/strength conditioning on the show that probably prepared them decently for a marathon...still, yeah, 30 days prep was pretty weak....can't believe ron finished, even if it was in 13+ hours....
Very mixed feeleings on this. Yes, they had the cardio training spending 6 hrs a day in the gym while on the ranch and, given their finishes, it seemed that the two ladies did quite well finishing under 6 hrs. No doubt Mike would have been there too if he could have run.
No way Ron should have been left out there for 13 hours, though. The doc should have stepped in.
I just wonder if this cheapens the sport for the rest of us? Hey, they did it on tv, anyone can do it with little or no training.
Everyone has echoed my thoughts. Leaving someone out on the course for over 13 hours is absurd and just wrong. They close the route down at 8 hours and at some races 7.
Yeah...I really couldn't get that either... I think it will send the wrong message out that anyone can do a marathon with very little time to train. I totally disagree with that. And someone should have stopped Ron...there is no way that was safe. They may have been doing tons of cardio and strength in the gym, but I highly doubt they were building mileage to a marathon the entire time.

I was literally yelling at the tv last night.

I don't watch the show, but yes, a month is not nearly enough time. Especially if they were physiclaly active beforehand.

Wha?!? 13 hrs?!? That's just nuts! I don't watch the show but COME ON leaving someone out there for that long is just insane!
