Wednesday's Why?????

Why do I continually get sucked into stuff?????

First there was Blogging, which started out as a great way to get my thoughts and stories out to the world(as if they wanted to read them)

Then, there was Facebook. Another great waste of time. Do you remember when it was always 'what is on your mind'??? Now it's the only way I communicate with some folks.

Now there is Pinterest, another great use of my invaluable time!

Who comes up with these?

Is there a think tank plotting to take up all of my time?

All of this and I still have reality television to watch!

When am I ever going to get out and run??????????/

Ouch, Owies, WTF??????

Now I can probably diagnose and come up with a treatment for almost every running injury or ache. As a matter of fact, I've probably had most, if not all of them too!

But for the life of me other injuries drive me crazy............

A few weeks ago I tweaked my left shoulder doing dips. Who knew a tricep exercise could do this????

Rotator cuff, pulled muscle, bone cancer? I don't have clue but it wakes me in the middle of the night.

I've been trying to not do any upper body stuff, which is like trying not to breath............

Then doing damn Hollow Rocks and other assorted abdominal exercises, I think I strained an ab muscle! I don't even want a six-pack, unless it's on ice..... So does R.I.C.E. apply to abs?????

So since the abs are bothering me, why not have my groin on the left side flare up! Luckily, it only hurts when I run........ damnit!

With all of this, getting out of bed in the morning is a real chore. Talk about old man syndrome....

So, I can walk around all day in an ice body suit but I still need to maintain this great physique. What do I do????

I jump on the trainer and start watching Hulu......... My arse is killing me today.....

I've even resorted to the pool, damn kids hogging my lane......... I haven't been in a pool in years and it showed.....

So what is a guy to do, is there a drug for this??????

T.G.I.Funny..........

Remember consuming mass quantities?????? Okay, I'm old.......

I have a few friends that are into Crossfit and the first Open Workout came out yesterday. Boy, you would have thought it was the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition to a bunch of teenage boys! How many burpees can you do in seven minutes? That's the workout... AS much as I hate burpees, I'm shooting for 7!

Speaking of tough workouts, check out Rose. I'm thinking the Olympics must be on her radar the way that she's working out......

Sixteen miles for the team tomorrow is the longest! We are inching our way up to the big 2-0!

Should I be encouraged or pissed when some young adult calls me 'sir'? Encouraged that they're showing respect or pissed that they think I'm that old?????

Three Things Friday Eve.......

Even though this is a short work week, it seems like it is flying by!

1) We're due to be hit with the latest nation-wide storm and people are freaking out like Floridians! I've got co-workers already staking claim to working from home and the roads are dry as a James Bond martini.... We're in the Mitten state folks, grow some balls!

2) Katie posted today about an issue with her calf and how it's transformed her walking stride into a 'pimp limp'! I was floored by that statement because I have been trying to explain (unsuccessfully) for years to people that I am not hurting, it's the way I walk! Growing up in da hood, not really but it sounds tougher. In my youth I assimilated into my surroundings and began walking different, now it's a part of me. Who do you walk like????

3)I thought this was funny and I know how many T-shirts most of you have in your closets. Convert that old race T-shirt into your favorite shopping tote. I think you need to have a smidgen of Martha Stewart in you to do this.

Wednesday's Why?????

I had to wake up at the butt-crack of dawn to take Sandy to the airport. It was too soon to go to work and too far to go back home! So I decided to go to the gym...........

Now normally I go to this place at lunchtime and the group is pretty diverse with people doing everything.

This morning crew seemed to be focused!

Everybody was doing their thang and getting the hell outta there.

The one odd thing that I did notice was people leaving their weights on machines and benches and towels were all over the place! WTF??

So why the big diff in the two time slots?

Why would I load up a machine with weights and leave them for the next guy?

Why should someone else have to pick up after you because you pay a monthly fee?

(non-gym) Why would I leave a shopping cart in a handicap parking space? That makes me mad.......

Tuesday's Thoughts...........

I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday and purchased some furniture. That seems to be the only reason for the holiday, to have a Sale at the local furniture store....

Being from the 'old school' (pre-WWW) I remember scrambling around trying different types of training plans on the fly! I couldn't turn on my PC and have a plan saved at my finder tips. I had pencil and paper with some numbers and a reasonable date to do my long runs

The only real plans we had were the plans of the elite runners and  boy was that hard(and stupid) keeping up with them!

When did the taper period go from two weeks to three weeks?

I remember people racing the day before a marathon!

It's always funny when people ask me about Hal Higdon's training plans and I ask them, who is he????

How many of you used his plans without knowing anything about the man?

What about Yasso 800s? Do you perform them and not know who or what about Bart Yasso?

Just some of hte thoughts that go through the mind of an old runner.........

Three Thing Friday Eve............

1) I'm being pressured into doing the Make-A-Wish 300 Mile Bike ride again this year. I love the cause and it is fun being on the bike but camping and century rides????? We'll see.............

2) Have you noticed the days are getting longer and longer? I have a little more daylight on my evening runs, which brings a smile to my face even if my running sucks!

3) Lastly, I've been invited to join the prestigious Hanson's (Desiree Davilla) Racing Team! Although I'm excited about it, I'm still puzzled as to why my invitation came in their weekly newsletter email???? Oh well, I'm sure it was an oversight of some sort.

Wednesday's Why????????

Okay a crappy run yesterday means a non-running related why today!

Since I am a runner and I'm more prone to running behind someone than in the lead. I see a lot of arse, I catch myself doing it in 'real-life' too...

Is it just me that separates their running life from their real-life?

Anyway, today is a fashion question....... Why do they put those pockets in the back of ladies dress skirts?

Do you guys really carry wallets that would fit in that little pocket and give you that bulge on one-side?

I only ask because I care.

Hey, could any of you relate to Santa on the Biggest Loser last night? I imagine that the contestants are always sore and achy! I think he's the first one I've ever heard say it on the show...........

Tuesday's Toughts................

Happy VD! 

Okay, so band-aids aren't the best for protecting OUCHIES when running......

Do you realize if you have a cadence of 170 and something rubbing your skin, that's approximately  2550 rubs for 30 minutes of running........ OUCH

Snow covered trails in the winter, safe or stupid???

Am I the only one that is weirded out by this weather? We haven't been dumped on and the temps have been really mild. Did those Mayans really know something?

How do people work all day without working out at lunchtime? I'm paying a premium for my gym membership because it's across the street from my workplace!

Just got a note from a few of my participants and they're sore from Saturday's long run! Don't you love it when a plan comes together???????

Three Thangs Friday Eve

This week is flying by and I'm not sure why???

1) I sustained an OUCHIE on Saturday's group run. My jock strap wasn't fitting right and I have a gash of missing skin in the area between the buttocks and the other stuff........... I've tried running a couple of times since but it ain't pretty. Now I see why cowboys don't run!

2) One of my running friends was picked in the NYC marathon lottery and now he's trying to get a crew to go with him. Didn't we just talk about how expensive racing has gotten? Although I did receive an email from a gentleman inquiring about exchanging homes with other runners in different cities worldwide. I think he's from Nigeria????

3) I'm beginning to think that we may not see any sub-zero run days this winter (sad face). How can you toughen up these newbies without a crazy cold day????

Wednesday's Why?????????

Just got back from the gym and it is clearing out a little from the Resolution crowd.

Why would a guy that is bench pressing 335lbs ask me to spot him?????????

Have you ever been in a gym where guys are grunting to left the entire gym? Why don't we grunt to run faster????

We had a friend attempt the Rocky Raccoon 100 Mile race this past weekend but he bailed because of stomach issues. This is like the fourth friend to DNF at 100 miles....

Should I be getting new friends???? These people are crazy........

Being a year older doesn't feel any different, TODAY!

I wasn't going to post anything about birthdays until I read Racing with Babies birthday post! We're born on the same day!

We could be twins if not for the extended period of labor her mother would have gone through.............

Okay, no new age group or significant number change. Just another glorious day to be on this earth!

On a side note:
Registration for the 2012 Bank of America Chicago Marathon closed in record time today as the maximum 45,000 participants signed up in six days for the 35th anniversary event. Demand to run the iconic race has increased significantly in recent years, closing 25 days faster than the previous record established last year. A decade ago, the 2003 event closed in 35 weeks.

T.G.I.February...........

Finally, we can get rid of all the New Year's resolution people at the gyms around this country! I have actually driven to the gym and noticed how packed the parking lot is and just kept going......

If the lot is full, I can only imagine how crowded the locker room is going to be....

How can you use the restroom facilities and leave without flushing, that's nasty? You're an adult with a job!

So by the end of January a lot of folks have fallen off the healthy wagon and I can have my gym back.....

Is it just me or do you feel like being a regular gives you Carte Blanche at the gym????

You know, like trying to get the same locker each visit or the staff knowing your first name.......

Three Things Friday Eve

In an effort to get through these winter work weeks, I am officially calling this Friday Eve from now on!

TTFE

1) I am committed to taking a spinning class at least once a week. I went yesterday at lunch and my legs were wobbly for the remainder of the afternoon. I love when the instructor's playlist has at least a few songs that I know. It makes me push through those tough spots.

2) I'll be volunteering for an inaugural SuperBowl race on Sunday. It's with our local Hanson's Race Management team.I might be in charge of the half-time show featuring a few tunes by Madonna. I've already told them that there might be a few BEvERages on the course........

3) I know that a lot of you have your 2012 race schedule etched in stone. So have you committed financially for all of them or do you wait? Would you invest in a years worth of races up front for a discount? We have a race circuit that uses that format but it also forces you to their set of races. Would you do the same thing for other activities?

Wednesday's Why??????

I have a chance to run with my Tuesday drinking group, since the temps were in the fifties! Running in shorts on January 31st in the mitten state........... Now I see why people like the left coast or the south!

Why is it when people see a large group of individuals running in an urban area as a group, they ask why we're running?

I love to tell them that the police are chasing us or the people up ahead stole my wallet!

What's the strangest question you've gotten while running???
